TRAFFIC SIGNS

• Traffic signs are divided into 3 classes / categories
(category A, B and C)
A. Regulatory signs + priority signs
B. Warning signs
C. Informatory signs

B. WARNING SIGNS

• They are triangle in shape and red in color.
• They protect the driver as they show him/her how the road is ahead. They are the driver’s map of what is ahead and dangers.
• The features indicated are found 200m ahead from where the signs are.
• We start with the term AHEAD when reading them.
• They are represented by letter W.

A. REGULATORY SIGNS

• These signs are circled.
• These are the signs to be observed.
• These signs give orders that must be followed.
• These signs stand for the traffic authorities or traffic officers on the road.
• They are divided into two main categories.
• Circled blue signs are called, mandatory/compulsory signs.
• When reading them, we start with the term COMPULSORY.
• They are represented by letter M.
• Circled red signs are called prohibitory signs. –
We start with the term NO ENTRY when reading them –
They are represented by letter P.
• Priority signs are also classified under regulatory signs. –
They are the major signs. – –
They are Stop sign and Give way sign.
They are represented by letter R.

C. INFORMATORY SIGNS
• These signs are divided into 3 main categories.
1) Route confirmatory signs
Green – Advance direction signs/trunk roads
• These are signs with letter A.
• They indicate that the road links between two countries or
connects two countries.
Black – non-trunk road
• These show places and their directions within a country,
from town to town and from city to city.
2) Blue – Public facilities informatory signs
3) Warning/cautionary informatory signs
